Now and Then

I drove past the house yesterday and it looks like they have done as much as they can before bricking begins. The frame looks done! The windows are in. It's now much clearer what is going on. I am pretty good at understanding floor plans and I think I have a pretty good grasp of how big rooms are and how it will be, but I don't really have a strong grasp of the family/meals area. I am quite nervous that it will be quite small but I have walked through display homes with similar proportions and they didn't look bad at all.

So that is how things are today. I have about 2 -3 months to go I guess. And I am so ready to go!

Once I had decided to build a new home I started making lists of the things I would need. My plan is to leave this home as close to intact as I can so the kids don't see their home stripped bare. So in a Noah kind of way, I have been collecting a second one of everything.

I started with the classifieds on line, allclassifieds. As I saved a bit of money, I would pick a goal and chase down the best price for that item. And so I have ended up with a fridge and a washing machine for not a lot of money.

Then I got keen on ebay. I had a load of fun there. I bought door handles and beds and some lovely paintings. Though in the end I discovered that electrical appliances are just as competitive bought through stores.

I began looking at appliances on line and then found 2nds World but once I was familiar with the brands and reviews by reading those sites thoroughly, I found that the local Harvey Norman were able to do very good prices that came with local warranty support.

Funnily in all my shopping I found Canberra really is an utter rip of for furniture. It is interesting that Harvey is being competitive, but the furniture companies seem to feel free to have their wicked ways!

Next time I feel like blogging, I am going to tell the story of buying my oven. It will make me feel good and I am going to need to feel good as my filling has fallen out tonight and i just now I am in for a bad time!
